Laryngitis Symptoms

Larynx cancer is one of the most dreaded types of cancer. Symptoms of this condition mainly depend on the tumor’s size and location. This usually begins on the vocal cords.

Laryngitis is when the larynx becomes inflamed. The voice becomes hoarse and there can possibly be a complete loss of voice because the vocal cords become irritated by the inflammation. Laryngitis can be acute; lasting less than three days or it can be chronic; lasting for more than three weeks.

Vitamins can help fight off the infection causing laryngitis. Experts recommend 5,000 international units of vitamin A and 5,000 milligrams of vitamin C per day. Both vitamins are powerful antioxidants, which promote healthy cells. Along with vitamins, reflexology therapy is another natural way to treat laryngitis. Concentrate on reflex points associated with the throat, chest, lung, diaphragm and lymphatic system.

Viral laryngitis does not require drug therapy, but if a bacterial infection has been diagnosed, ampicillin, tetracycline, or another broad-spectrum anti biotic will be prescribed, typically for 10 days. Laryngitis due to vocal abuse or irritants is best treated with rest and inhalation of moistened air. A singer, actor, or public figure who must use his voice during a bout of mild laryngitis may be helped by spraying a few drops of epinephrine directly onto the vocal cords. This is especially effective in countering allergic laryngitis, the condition that plagued President Clinton during his 1992 campaign.

Laryngitis is defined as an inflammation of larynx (voice box) due to overuse, irritation or infection generally associated with hoarseness or loss of voice. The larynx is the part of voice. When speaking, two membranes in the larynx – the vocal cords – vibrate to produce sound. It is a structure for supporting the cartilage, muscles and mucous membranes that forms the entrance of windpipe.

But many other things can cause a hoarse voice. One of the most common causes is acute laryngitis (inflammation of the larynx). This usually happens due to a cold, a chest infection or over use of the voice, such as shouting or screaming. The symptoms of laryngeal cancer depend on where the cancer develops. Since it most often develops on the vocal cords, hoarseness or other changes in the voice are common.

Virus infection is the most common kind to produced laryngitis. It may also be produced by a bacterial infection or a common cold , bronchitis , flu , or pneumonia. Fungal laryngitis is generally seen in the immunocompromised or those taking inhaled steroids.

Laryngitis generally occurs from too much screaming & yelling. Even a lot of loud singing can irritate the vocal cords and produce laryngitis. When vocal cords become inflamed and swollen, they can’t function properly & voice may sound hoarse and may sometimes block the airway.

The symptoms of Laryngitis are quite easy to identify. They include a dry throat or dry cough. The throat may be come sore and raw along with a tickling sensation in the area of the larynx. Laryngitis will also cause the sufferer to develop a weak voice and their speech may become hoarse. Laryngitis often occurs along side other illnesses such as flu, cold or pneumonia.

The upper part of the trachea is the larynx where the vocal cords are found. The vocal cords meet together and vibrate properly, so if there is change in the voice, it indicates early symptom. Tumor in the larynx starts within the vocal nerves or cords. Hoarseness is frequently the initial sign of cancer in the larynx or voice box. If hoarseness is experienced for more than one month, it is it is advised that the affected person should see a doctor who is a specialist on ear, nose, and throat (ENT) ailments.

Boil a pot of water and remove from the stove. Add 2 drops of chamomile essential oil, 3 drops lavender essential oil and 2 drops thyme essential oil. Make a tent over the head and the pot and inhale.

Heavy drinking and smoking is particularly linked to cancer above the vocal cords (the supraglottis) and the area around the vocal cords (the glottis). Compared to non-drinkers, you have about 3 times the risk of developing cancer of the larynx if you are a heavy drinker. Even drinking less than two drinks a day (for example two pints of beer or two large glasses of wine) gives a slightly increased risk of laryngeal cancer.

It’s not always possible, but if you can, rest your voice for a week or two until your voice box is no longer inflamed. Don’t even whisper if possible.

The doctor can describe your treatment choices and the results you can expect for each treatment option. You will want to consider how treatment may change the way you look, breathe, and talk. You and your doctor can work together to develop a treatment plan that meets your needs and personal values.

There are a variety of different treatments for laryngitis. Some of them are breathing in moist air, resting your voice, drink plenty of fluids, treat the underlying cause of laryngitis and suck on lozenges. You can breath in moist air by sitting in the bathroom with the shower running on hot or putting hot water in a bowl and breathing in the steam. Drinking plenty of fluids helps to prevent dehydration, treating alcoholism or excessive smoking will help rid of laryngitis and sucking on lozenges makes the throat wetter and takes away the dryness and soreness.
