Angelina Jolie is a great actress and inspiration for many women all around the world. But I wasn’t expecting this.
Apparently, Jolie isn’t a big fan of grains and cereals in her diet. She was seen in Cambodia, sharing the taste of scorpions, tarantulas and other insects with her kids. I’m not sure if they enjoyed their delicious snack.
Angelina and her children have been involved in the filming of “First They Killed My Father” and had the chance to taste the delights of the local diet of Cambodia.
Scorpions, tarantulas and other insects have become the new healthy snack – not only Angelina Jolie includes them in her diet, but also other celebrities like Salma Hayek. Hayek has more than two videos on Instagram eating crickets.
Jolie teaches her twins Knox and Vivienne to eat spiders. She has a past with eating this kind of foods.
“First I tried the crickets, then crickets with beer and then I dared with the tarantulas,” said the actress.
This passion has been passed to her children, especially Shiloh, 10 years old. They cook a tarantula together and eat the meal later without any hesitation.
The issue that comes up again is the nutritional value of insects as an important source of protein but today few people dare to try.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) they are among the best quality protein sources. As a result, 100 grams of grasshoppers have 20.6 grams of protein, just the same as a beef steak containing about 25 grams. Another of tarantulas interesting contributions is the amount of fatty acids and richness in essential amino acids which makes them easy to digest. Also, they are very rich in calcium, magnesium and vitamins B.
According to Dr. Julieta Ramos-Elorduy, a researcher at the Institute of Biology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), “proteins repair and build our cells, tissues and organs of the body and also are involved in the functioning of the immune system that protects us. Insects not only provide a large amount of protein, but can even exceed the quality of fish, chicken and any other source of protein, “says the expert.
Knowing that, it is not strange that every day, more and more countries eat insects or include them in their diet. In Japan, they enjoy silkworms and bees with soy sauce as an appetizer.
In many Asian countries, scorpions, spiders and beetles are fried and accompanied by large bowl of vegetables.
